Farnham Town Flares wrapped up their 2024 season in style with an impressive series of results in the final round of the Surrey FA Multi-Age Walking Football League.
The final round of the season was held at the Xcel Sports Hub in Walton-on-Thames.
The Flares kicked things off with a dominant 2-0 victory over Woking, with Gary Humphrey scoring two stunning goals from distance. In the second match, Farnham edged past Dorking 1-0, with Mark Berezicki converting a crucial penalty to seal the win.
The season ended with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against unbeaten champions Godalming. Goalkeeper Tony Fairclough kept a clean sheet, pulling off several key saves to secure the result.
Farnham Town’s disciplined performances earned them a respectable fifth-placed position in the final league table, ahead of rivals Chelsea.
Manager Ashley Jones said: “The boys were brilliant. Their discipline and commitment over a long, tough season have been outstanding. We’ve consistently improved, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved this year.”
Farnham Town Flares have over-50s, over-60s and multi-age teams competing in leagues and cup competitions. The club also participates in tournaments and friendly games.
Although walking football is aimed at people over the age of 50, Farnham Town Flares also welcome players who are below this age and would like to continue playing. Training is held weekly throughout the year.
