Farnham Town Flares’ over-50s team had mixed results in the fifth round of the Surrey League.

The day began with a tightly-contested 1-1 draw against Godalming. Mark Clark found the back of the net for Farnham with a composed penalty, ensuring the team earned a share of the spoils.

Farnham faced a strong Chelsea side in their second game. Farnham fell to a 2-0 defeat in a game played by two closely-matched teams.

The Flares bounced back emphatically in their next match against Dorking, securing a commanding 3-0 victory. Clark was on target again, scoring twice, including another penalty, while Andy Cundy added a third to seal the win.

Farnham ended the day in style with a dominant 5-1 win over Walton. Clark was the star of the show, netting four times, including a penalty, and Gary Humphrey added to the tally with a goal of his own.

Walton managed to score a consolation goal from the penalty spot, but Farnham’s relentless attack proved to be too strong.

Manager and club chairman Andy Cundy said: “It was a fantastic round of games for the lads, especially bouncing back so strongly after the Chelsea match, which was played with heart, faith and steel, but in the end, there can be only one winner.

“Mark Clark was outstanding, but it was a real team effort across all the matches.”

Farnham Town Flares have over-50s, over-60s and multiage teams competing in leagues and cup competitions. The club also participates in tournaments and friendly games.

Although walking football is aimed at people over the age of 50, Farnham Town Flares also welcomes players below this age who would like to continue playing. Training is held weekly throughout the year.
