BRIGHTWELL Tennis Club teams enjoyed a vintage summer season in the Aldershot & District League, with the men’s, ladies and mixed A teams all winning their Premier Divisions.

The men won the title for the third year running and while this was a great achievement in itself, it was all the more satisfying because they finished with a 100 per cent record, beating all their opponents home and away.

The top three players in the league – Josh Bence (30 sets out of 30), Ben Wiltshire and Sam Axton – were all from Brightwell. Four players won over 90 per cent of their sets, with two having perfect records.

It was especially encouraging to see some of the junior and younger players stepping up in some of the matches. This was a tribute to the strength in depth at Brightwell and the excellent programme of tennis for the juniors.

There was no stopping the ladies A, either. They also retained the title won last summer, this year winning ten out of ten matches. A few new recruits joined an already strong team, captained by Jackie West, who won 27 out of 27 sets, and alongside Cat McKeracher, Vic Brown and Caroline Weaver, took the top four places in the league’s individual player rankings.

Brightwell mixed A made it a clean sweep of titles by winning their Premier League by 20 points. Jamie Kirk, Jackie West and Cat McKeracher were first, second and third in the player rankings, but the team needed a large squad of 14 players to cover for injuries and absences. Everyone who played contributed to the success.

Brightwell continue to strive for excellence at all levels of play and all ages. The club boasts some of the best facilities in the area and are able to field men’s, ladies, mixed and junior teams in various leagues, as well as hold club nights, social play and coaching.
