On a cold Friday evening on January 12, I set out to attend the opening night of Ewsh*t Theatre Company’s Variety Show.

With no preconception about what to expect I was astounded by the talent on show.

A truly inclusive village community event, the evening featured solo singers, a jubilee choir, comedy duos, magicians, flamenco and Bridgerton dancers, a homage to the Spice Girls, ABBA and Fishermen’s Friends, as well as children’s dance troupes, a clarinettist and some beautifully choreographed gymnasts.

The evening was slick, punchy, incredibly well rehearsed and an absolute delight.

In a group event such as this it seems unfair to single out any specific performer but I would mention that every act delivered truly outstanding performances with confidence, professionalism and smiles all round.

However I would like to mention the compere for the evening, Michael Philipps, who introduced the acts with great comic timing and a never ending array of colourful suits.

Spearheaded by Caroline Whillans, the chair of Ewsh*t Theatre Company, it is hard to believe the company have only been in existence for a year, debuting their undeniable stage talent with Cinderella the panto last year.

They are certainly a local am-dram group to watch out for.
