It may have been the Phoenix’s party but the Bordon Men’s Shed was also given a stage last weekend to showcase the future home.
The group got a taste of things to come on Saturday as they held a taster event at the back of the Station Road theatre to showcase their work.
The event coincided with the theatre’s relaunch following a six-figure revamp with more than a dozen prospective men’s shed members adding their names to a list.
The outfit is currently homeless and their members are carrying out jobs in their own garages, sheds, and wherever they can having been forced to leave their previous workshop at Prince Phillip Park.
But their nomadic days are coming to an end, as a plot currently occupied by two shipping containers at the building’s rear has been earmarked for a permanent residence.
“We’ve got two new containers from Wernick Hire Ltd at Coxbridge to come, and they’ll be converted to give us a permanent home,” said the aptly-named Clive Handy last Saturday morning.
“The cost for the containers is also well under what was given to us by EHDC and that will be our new home.”
While clearing a space is one problem, another is getting planning permission with the group set to meet a planning officer this week for help and advice with the application.
But Mr Handy and co are confident of making progress, while the Phoenix Players have also expressed an interest in their possible arrival.
