The wheels are still turning on plans to improve bus links between Whitehill & Bordon and Farnham as a transport masterplan has been updated.

Hampshire County Council and its partners will look into making the 18 a twice-hourly route that’s timetabled to link-in with train services at Farnham.

The aspiration is part of the revised Transport Strategy for the W&B Area developed in partnership with East Hampshire District Council and the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company.

The council recognises that a “substantial amount of funding” has been secured for transport improvements around the town from 14 years of development and organisations like Homes England and the former Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership.

Now there’s hopes that some of that cash will finally be spent in W&B, with the strategy listing priorities with a view to carrying out feasibility studies.

The big aspiration is improving connections between ‘old’ Whitehill & Bordon and new housing developments around the town through improved walking, cycling and public transport connections.

But this needs to be balanced with provision for car use, with further priorities including completing the Green Grid Loop and improving walking and crossing facilities on the A325 Relief Road.

“Naturally people, behaviours and places change over time,” said HCC leader, Cllr Nick Adams-King, in agreeing the updated plans.

“We must be sure that we are planning to make places better for the future and provide what is needed so that people can enjoy a good quality of life.

“This includes making provision for changing travel patterns and aspirations such as greater use of public transport and more active and greener ways of getting around, like walking and cycling. “

Although a masterplan to support the area’s regeneration was agreed in 2010, residents’ travel patterns have changed along with national and local transport policies.
