A SCHOOLGIRL will be heading off to Tanzania this summer to join a team building a bridge, a school and a medical centre.
The Scout team from England will be working alongside Tanzanian Scouts to create a site for a jamboree celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Tanzania.
Emily spoke to Four Marks and Medstead Rotary about her plans, which include building a self-supporting ‘da Vinci’ bridge, digging a water supply trench and new toilets and showers.
She has to raise £3,500 to take part in the expedition.
“I have done a number of fundraising activities, including cleaning cars, gardening and a sponsored hundred-mile cycle ride,” she said.
Emily has now raised £2,700 toward her target.
Rotary youth officer Lisa Hillan said: “We in Rotary are delighted to support such an enterprising young person. Emily has promised to return to our club in the autumn to tell us how she got on in Africa.”
