It’s all kicking off at Whitehill Town Council as the ball is rolling on plans to revamp a dated play area.
Councillors have backed plans to update the Cypress Road site in Whitehill as part of a greater bid to improve play areas and recreational facilities around the town.
A kick-wall will be the centrepiece of the scheme with the feature being bordered by fencing and a wet-pour playing surface.
An outdoor table tennis table, picnic benches and a “nice pretty brown fence” are also planned in the much-needed overhaul of the site.
The proposals, which are subject to funding being granted, were influenced by feedback from locals who took part in a WTC survey, with the dated play equipment currently at the site set for removal.
“We’re going to take the survey onboard and have no more play equipment there,” said deputy town clerk Ray Ramsay, who the Herald wrongly called a councillor in a report last week about the removal and relocation of the Canadian war memorial.
He added: “Kids are always kicking a ball around there.”
Members of the council’s Executive Committee recently voted for their preferred contractor with enquiries now being made about funding.
Cllr Andy Tree, WTC leader, called the revamp a “continuation of all the additions” the council and Whitehill & Bordon Community Party is making to recreation around town.
He added: “To see what we’ve done to Mill Chase, the tractor at Jubilee Park, things are happening and it’s three for people to see.”
