Rushmoor Knights American football team are heading to the play-offs after a resounding win against Oxford Saints.
On the very first play for the offense Chiambah Toh Salu ran 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 6-0.
Oxford’s next two possessions resulted in interceptions for Demilade Soyoye, giving the offense more opportunities. Calvin Stitt found Matt Rickard on a fourth and long to set up Harvey Macey to run in from ten yards. Stitt then scrambled to his right on the two-point extra conversion to dunk a pass to an unmarked Rickard to make it 14-0 and end the quarter.
The Knights took over on their own 18-yard line after a good drive by Oxford stalled. The Knights’ first play saw a hand off by Stitt, which Aaron Sekwalor ran 82 yards down the right-hand side for the score. After a poor snap on the first extra point, Travis Carpenter would be successful with every kick onwards and made it 21-0.
Toh Salu’s 35-yard run up the middle set up Seb Haley, who ran in from ten yards to the left pylon to make it 28-0.
Oxford’s next first play saw Torin Bent intercept a pass for a pick six from the 30-yard line to make it 35-0.
The Knights scored twice more before half-time. Carpenter grabbed a Stitt pass from 40 yards, and after Achiga Binyiri had recovered a fumble at the two-minute warning Rickard’s five-yard catch made the half-time score 49-0.
The second half opened up with James Biggar taking over from Stitt at quarterback and throwing a long bomb to a wide open Carpenter for a 60 yards pass reception to make it 56-0.
Oxford’s quarterback then found his wide receiver with a one-handed catch for the score from 20 yards to make it 56-6.
Carpenter scored again, this time from the kick off, returning 80 yards straight up the middle untouched to make it 62-6.
An interception by Panashe Chinembiri set up Harvey Macey from 20 yards, breaking three missed tackles to make it 69-6.
The Knights secured home field advantage in the play-offs after finishing 8-0 in the regular season.
