BOGNOR 62, PETERSFIELD 0
PETERSFIELD 1st XV’s woes continued last Saturday as they were roundly thumped by second-placed Bognor who scored ten tries in a rampant display.
With yet more changes to their line-up, ’Field put in a gutsy performance and fought hard from start to finish, but were doomed to failure before they even took to the pitch.
Since the start of the season, a growing list of injured and absent regular first-teamers has forced coach Andy Patience to select his team on the basis of just who is available.
One silver lining to the dark clouds over Penns Place is that the club now boast an enviable number of players committed to the senior section – a resource that Patience is having to plunder with monotonous regularity.
While the effects of a lack of team continuity were obvious at Bognor, there were some good passages of play and if the execution had been sharper, the scoreline would have been less emphatic.
A young Bognor side scored tries regularly, even when the sin-bin reduced their personnel on the field to 12.
By half-time, Bognor had run in seven tries through Mark Ubsdell, Josh Burgess (2), Ainsley Howard, Sam Newcombe (2) and Pat Gibbs, with Jack Hornibrook kicking four conversions.
Hornibrook, Newcombe and Gibbs added further tries in the second half
With no game this weekend, Petersfield’s next Hampshire 1 action will be on November 7 when they host third-placed Millbrook.
Petersfield 2nd XV were looking for a strong performance against Locksheath and the team delivered with a 32-24 league victory. Six ’Field tries were shared between Harry Attwood (2), Franko Tomic (2), Jon Horsfall and Jim Coombes-Excell.
