Farnham were held to a 25-25 draw by Winchester in Regional Two South Central on Saturday after conceding a late try.
Farnham kicked off with the breeze behind them and looked to start the game well, but it was Winchester who scored the first try to take a 7-0 lead.
The home side got on the scoreboard minutes later with a long-range penalty from Toby Salmon, and Salmon kicked another penalty shortly afterwards to make the score 7-6.
Winchester extended their lead with a penalty, but Farnham responded with a penalty of their own shortly afterwards to make it 10-9.
Another penalty gave Farnham the chance to take the lead, and Salmon made it 12-10.
A quick succession of penalties meant the Winchester hooker was shown a yellow card and Salmon kicked two further penalties to make the score 18-10 at half-time.
The visitors had the breeze behind them in the second half and kicked a penalty to make it 18-13.
Farnham tried to build some pressure and found some joy down the left-hand side with Max Williams making a series of mini breaks.
Farnham crept closer to the Winchester line and kept it tight for several phases before the ball was popped to Oscar Henderson, who powered over from close range for Farnham’s first try. The conversion made it 25-13.
Winchester bounced back with a try in the corner to make it 25-18.
The minutes ticked on and Farnham had the ball with less than a minute to go.
However, a penalty at the breakdown gave Winchester one last chance to kick to the corner and snatch a draw.
Winchester’s rolling maul was initially stopped short, however the ball was moved left and the Winchester winger finished well in the corner.
The conversion made the final score 25-25.
Farnham will travel to Newbury on Saturday (3pm).
