Aldershot & Farnham Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team ended their season with a 4-0 defeat at Guildford’s second team in the South East Women’s Premier Division.
The first half was evenly contested. The Shots created a number of chances as they pushed for the first goal. Tammy Cherry ran a baseline drive and got a cross into the D, and Sophia Fielding followed up with a shot on goal saved by the Guildford keeper. Guildford were struggling to get in the Shots’ D at times, but the sides went in on level terms at half-time at 0-0.
In the first minute of the second half Guildford broke into the D and won a short corner. This was dealt with well by the Shots, with keeper Lucy Cochrane making a save and the defence clearing. Guildford kept the ball down at the Shots’ end of the pitch and eventually took the lead.
Guildford’s pressure continued after the first goal, with two more attempts saved by Cochrane. Guildford won another short corner and scored after some messy second-phase play.
As the Shots began to tire, the Guildford waves of attacks continued. A Guildford breakaway left the Shots’ on the back foot and the hosts scored their third goal. The fourth goal followed soon afterwards.
The Shots kept going to the end as they pushed for a consolation goal. Sophie Edwards ran a baseline drive and won a short corner, but despite their best efforts the Shots were unable to get on the scoreboard.
