Petersfield Town were held to a 2-2 draw at Eastbourne United in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division on Saturday.
Despite surrendering a two-goal lead it was a good point gained for the Rams away at play-off chasers Eastbourne.
Asad Ssemwogerere and Brandon Miller put the visitors two up at the break but the Rams were pegged back swiftly after the restart and had to do a lot of defending.
Eastbourne imposed themselves early on, but a swift attack finished off by Ssemwogerere put the Rams ahead after 12 minutes.
Kian Towse pulled the ball across the box for Ssemwogerere to stick into the roof of the net from close range.
The Rams doubled their lead after 38 minutes from a corner when Miller’s header across goal beat Eastbourne keeper James Broadbent.
Petersfield were left to rue a golden chance early in the second half when Towse led a swift counter-attack and played the ball across goal to Harrison Cable, who couldn’t get the right connection to tap past the stranded Broadbent.
The miss proved costly as two minutes later in the 53rd minute Charlie Ball volleyed past Rams keeper Kieran Connell to make it 2-1.
Five minutes later it was all square. Rhyle Ovenden delivered a pinpoint cross for Jack Samways to head home a well-worked goal.
The hosts put Petersfield under steady pressure for the last 20 minutes. James Hull had a couple of good openings for the home side but failed to make the most of them.
The Rams had a late chance to win the game when Ssemwogerere broke through a tight offside trap and bore down on goal, but Broadbent smothered his effort.
Petersfield Town will host Shoreham in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
