PETERSFIELD TN 0, TEAM SOLENT 3

PETERSFIELD, attempting to lift the relegation gloom with a second successive home win in the Sydenhams Premier League, paid the price for a missed penalty against student side Team Solent.

The Rams created some decent early chances and won the penalty on five minutes when Billy Connor, not for the first time this season, was floored in the area. However, Luke Kendall’s weak spot kick was comfortably saved by Bradley Banda.

Petersfield were again unlucky when Jordan Geddes, sent through by Danny Thompson, saw his cross-shot hit the outside of the upright.

Team Solent took the lead from their first real attack after 18 minutes. The home defence failed to clear a corner and Julian Stahler stabbed home from close range.

Ryan Kennedy was denied by a goal-line clearance as Petersfield chased an equaliser.

Both teams then had further openings, but it was Team Solent who doubled their lead five minutes before half-time, punishing another defensive lapse. Ed Plackett tried to shepherd a cross out of play, but an attacker got in behind him and pulled the ball back for Jim Orvis to head home from right under the crossbar.

Petersfield had plenty of possession in the second half, but seldom looked like scoring.

Team Solent killed the game off with their third goal on 65 minutes. A ball over the top again caught out the home defence and as goalkeeper Luke Eaton raced out to intercept, Hisham Kasimu shot low across him and into the far corner.

Kasimu looked like scoring again in injury time, but the advancing Eaton this time blocked the striker’s shot at close range.

Petersfield: Eaton, Plackett, Kershaw, Thompson, Llewelyn, Geddes, Kendall (Keogh), Kennedy, Connor, Tremlett, Holford (Giles). Subs (not used): Thomas, Collins.
