Farnham Town exited the Surrey Senior Cup with a 3-1 defeat at home to National League South outfit Dorking Wanderers in the second round.

First-half goals from Niall McManus, Alfie Rutherford and Rhys Murphy fired a strong Dorking side to victory at The Memorial Ground, with Jordan Gallagher pulling a goal back for Town in the second half.

The visitors created the first chance of the evening in the second minute when Farnham keeper Hugo Sobte came out his area to clear and the loose ball fell to Jordan Norville-Williams, but his lobbed effort landed on the roof of the net.

Dorking enjoyed the majority of the possession in the opening half-hour, but both keepers were relatively quiet.

The visitors then made their pressure tell in spectacular style with a devastating three-goal burst in five minutes.

The opening goal arrived in the 31st minute when the ball fell to McManus on the edge of the area, and he found the bottom corner with a superb low strike.

The second arrived a minute later when Rutherford received the ball just outside the box and drove a clinical right-foot finish into the bottom left-hand corner.

It was 3-0 on 35 minutes when Matthew Briggs and Barry Fuller combined before Fuller’s cutback found Murphy, who clinically swept his first-time finish into the back of the net.

Farnham created a good opening in the 37th minute when Darryl Sanders and Adam Liddle played a one-two before Sanders turned and found space inside the box before hitting a left-foot shot across goal towards the far corner which was well saved by Dorking keeper Harrison Foulkes.

The game then had a lengthy delay as Sobte required treatment for an eye issue, but the Farnham keeper was able to continue.

Town nearly scored soon after played resumed when Liddle’s ball over the top picked out Owen Dean, whose right-foot shot went just wide of the near post.

Farnham made a change at half-time with Jordan Stepney replacing Liam Flanighan, while Dorking brought on Morgan Williams and James McShane for Rutherford and Josh Taylor.

Town created the first chance of the second half on 52 minutes when Sanders drove forward to the edge of the box and looked to pick out the top corner with a curling effort which went just over the bar.

Farnham did pull a goal back in the 59th minute when Gallagher’s curling free kick from just outside the box picked out the bottom right-hand corner.

Town boss Paul Johnson then freshened up his side with a triple change as Sam De St Croix, Joe Jackson and Harry Cooksley replaced Sanders, Liddle and Ben Purcell.

Farnham continued to press and Dean went close to scoring twice in quick succession.

Dean’s hooked effort from a set piece on 63 minutes went just wide of the far post, and a minute later Dean’s curling right-foot shot from just outside the box hit the outside of the post.

Farnham went close again in the 70th minute when Cooksley stood a ball up to the back post and Jack Dean’s half-volley went over the bar.

De St Croix was next to try his luck for Town on 78 minutes when his effort from the edge of the box was held by Foulkes at the second attempt.

The hosts went close again a minute later when a well-worked move ended with Cooksley drilling a low shot from the edge of the box which was well saved by Foulkes.

Cooksley turned provider four minutes later when his corner picked out Ryan Kinnane, who headed over the bar.

Town continued to push in the latter stages, but Dorking held on to book their place in the next round.

Next up for Farnham is a trip to Hanworth Villa in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
