Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was pleased with his side’s performance after they won 6-3 at Guernsey in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday.
Goals from Owen Dean (2), Sam De St Croix, Harry Cooksley, Adam Liddle and Mark Waters fired Farnham to victory as Town made it eight wins out of eight in the league to continue their perfect start to their league campaign.
Farnham overcame difficult conditions to pick up the three points.
Town were playing against the wind in the first half, but were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the eighth minute through Dean.
Guernsey equalised in the 30th minute through Jacques Cauvin, and Ben Acey put the hosts 2-1 up on 33 minutes.
Dean’s 40th-minute penalty got Farnham back on level terms at 2-2.
Town played with the wind in the second half and regained the lead in the 50th minute through Sam De St Croix, before Harry Cooksley made it 4-2 on 60 minutes.
Adam Liddle scored Farnham’s fifth in the 65th minute, and Mark Waters made it 6-2 on 73 minutes.
Charlton Gauvain pulled a goal back for Guernsey from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
“It was a strange game,” said Johnson. “We dominated the first half against the wind and went 1-0 up before conceding two quick goals, but we got the penalty before half-time to make it 2-2.
“At half-time we were very confident we would go on to win the game. We got the third goal just after half-time and that was decisive.
“All of the goals we scored were pretty good – Sam, Harry and Mark all scored with great strikes.”
Farnham have confirmed the departure of attacking player Lewis Flatman, and Johnson admitted he was disappointed with how the move came about.
“Lewis trained with Chertsey without telling us, which is disappointing,” said Johnson.
“He achieved a lot at the club but the way he has left us does leave a sour taste in the mouth.
“We’ve still got lots of good attacking options. We’re always on the lookout for quality players – but anyone who comes in has to be better than what we’ve already got.”
Farnham will host Southall in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday (3pm), and Johnson wants his side to keep their momentum going.
“It’s great that we’re putting all these points on the board and giving ourselves some margin for error later in the season,” said Johnson.
“We’re looking forward to being back at home and want to keep the winning run going.”
