Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was disappointed with his side’s performance after they exited the Velocity Cup with a 3-1 defeat at home to Binfield in the second round.
Goals from Mitchell Parker (2) and Charlie George were enough to send the visitors through at Westfield Lane, before Lamin Ceesay pulled a goal back for the Baggies late on.
Smith felt his side could have played better on the night.
“We're disappointed,” said Smith. “They (Binfield) were hungrier than us – they were the better team. We've got to give them credit. They stopped us doing what we wanted to do, but we're disappointed with our own performance. I didn't think it was good enough. It was good at the end, when the game had gone. We got a goal back, which we probably deserved in the end, but ultimately we didn't do enough to warrant winning the game.
“We want to win games of football and we're not doing it. You can only be positive about performances for so long. They are good players – they've shown some good glimpses but it's not enough to win games.
“We're conceding way too many goals. They need to learn quickly and stop doing the things that might give people goals because they (Binfield) didn't have to work hard for the goals they got.
“It's nothing to do with how we're trying to play, it's just a poor decision and switching off a little bit.
“We've got to keep going, keep working at what we want to do and keep morale up. We want an identity, and then hopefully the results will come off that.
“They (Binfield) will be really pleased with the performance their team put in and the fact they grafted. They did all the hard stuff and their gameplan worked.”
