Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was disappointed with his side’s defending after they lost 5-1 against Farnham Town in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday.
“From our point of view we're disappointed,” said Smith. “I thought we started well for 15 minutes. At the minute the typical thing is we start well and gift a goal.
“Two or three of the goals were weak. They (Farnham) didn't have to work for them and then we're 4-0 down at half-time without them (Farnham) having to break a sweat.
“The whole pre-season and start of the season is very similar to last year. It's easy to show the signs you can play when you're losing, although I did fear at one point we'd get absolutely smashed.
“I don't know whether they (Farnham) took their foot off the gas or whether we played a little bit better. We looked a little bit more positive – the changes made a difference.
“We got two or three balls in from the left-hand side, which we hadn't all first half, so people took on the instruction a little bit better in the second half.
“It looked a lot easier from our point of view to do what we wanted, but Farnham had won the game from our mistakes and their quality in finishing. That's what the better teams do.
“We've got to take some positives. We were more pleased with the second half but the game had gone. We're not going to give up. We've got to keep trying to do better.”
