Badshot Lea exited the Emirates FA Cup with a 3-1 defeat at home to Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Cray Valley Paper Mills in the first qualifying round.

Goals from Adam Coombes, Danny Waldren and Hassan Ibrahiym were enough to send the visitors through to the second qualifying round at Westfield Lane, with Derek Luzinda pulling a goal back for the Baggies in stoppage time.

The visitors created the first chance of the afternoon in the eighth minute when Coombes received the ball with his back to goal and turned before hitting a fierce volley that was well parried behind for a corner by Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.

Coombes broke the deadlock two minutes later when his free kick took a wicked deflection to wrong-foot Cawdron and pick out the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

The Baggies responded well to falling behind and nearly equalised on 23 minutes after a free-flowing move. George Winkworth went on a driving run down the left and played the ball inside to Harvey Harry, who played the ball out to Lamin Ceesay on the right. Ceesay shifted a yard of space and hit a powerful shop which was well parried away by Cray Valley keeper Max Ovenden.

A minute later Baback Dehghani delivered a teasing delivery across the face of goal which just evaded the Badshot Lea attackers.

On 29 minutes Coombes played a good through ball to Marcel Barrington, but his heavy touch was well gathered by Cawdron.

The visitors had a good chance to double their advantage in the 36th minute when Michael Ademiluyi volleyed over the bar from close range.

The Baggies had an excellent chance to equalise two minutes later. A long ball picked out Winkworth, who headed the ball on to Ceesay. Ceesay took a touch and hit a right-foot shot which was blocked by substitute keeper Oliver Pain, who had narrowed the angle well.

The Baggies started the second half brightly and nearly equalised on 54 minutes when Kai Allsopp beat his mean and saw his shot well parried over the bar by Pain for a corner.

The hosts continued to push and Harry cut in from the left in the 58th minute and hit a right-foot shot over the bar.

The visitors doubled their advantage on 66 minutes when a teasing free kick led to a scramble and Waldren flicked the loose ball home from close range.

Cray Valley had a good chance to make it 3-0 in the 69th minute when Waldren’s header hit the crossbar.

The Baggies nearly pulled a goal back when Adam Payce’s 75th-minute shot was parried away by Pain and the loose ball fell to Allsopp, whose shot across the face of goal went wide of the far post.

The visitors scored a third in stoppage time when Ibrahiym ran through and calmly placed his finish past Cawdron.

There was still time for the hosts to pull a goal back when a corner led to a scramble and Luzinda fired the ball home from close range.

Next up for the Baggies is a Velocity Cup second round tie at home to Binfield on Tuesday, September 3 (7.45pm kick-off).
