Badshot Lea reached the next round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 1-0 win against Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division Stansfeld in the extra preliminary round at Westfield Lane.

George Winkworth’s first-half header was enough to seal the Baggies’ place in the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

The Baggies started brightly and went close to taking the lead on 22 minutes when Kai Allsopp drove forward but shot just wide.

Stansfeld went close to going ahead in the 32nd minute when Chris Alhassan’s shot was parried behind for a corner by Baggies keeper Myles Bowman.

The home side took the lead on 38 minutes when Winkworth jumped highest and emphatically headed home into the right-hand corner of the net from a corner.

The Baggies deservedly led at half-time, but Stansfeld nearly equalised three minutes into the second half when Ibrahim Barrie headed over the bar from an inviting delivery.

Barrie went close again a minute later from another dangerous free kick, but this time his header bounced into the ground and over the par.

The visitors won another free kick in the 54th minute, but Reiss Skeen fired his effort over the bar.

Badshot Lea nearly doubled their advantage on 71 minutes when Jaheim Kamara’s shot was parried behind for a corner by Stansfeld keeper Leighton Fanshawe.

The home side had a golden chance five minutes later. Kamara went on a mazy run and played the ball to Lamin Ceesay, but Ceesay hit his shot straight at Fanshawe and the visiting keeper parried the ball clear.

Fanshawe was called into action again a minute later and made a smart save at his far post from Kamara’s shot.

The Baggies comfortably saw out the rest of the game to set up a home tie against Balham in the preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, August 17 (3pm kick-off).

Next up for Badshot Lea is the Coxbridge derby and a mouthwatering home game against neighbours Farnham Town in their opening Isthmian League South Central Division match of the season on Saturday, August 10 (3pm kick-off).
