Clanfield’s first team made it three wins in a row with a 24-run victory at Compton in Division Five South East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Compton won the toss and bowled first. Clanfield opener Matt Bradley continued his fine form, scoring 92, but for the second game in succession fell agonisingly short of a century. Alex Andrews (40) was in the runs and James MacGregor (23 not out) added the final flourish as Clanfield scored 215 for five.
Compton began their innings well, with opener Luke Jones scoring 36. Damion Stamp (29) and captain Liam Dawtrey (32) built a healthy partnership, keeping the game in the balance.
Clinical bowling from Kuthubudeen Adbdul Malikoo and Rob Page kept runs to a minimum, with Guy Andrews (one for 26) delivering a fine spell. Martyn Crutchley (two for 23) and captain Sean Swift (two for 46) took two wickets each as the hosts finished on 191 for seven.
Clanfield’s second team crashed to a 142-run defeat against Wickham in Division Six South East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Wickham were 50 for two, but Rohan Chopra (89) and Nick Stothert (49) added 115 as the visitors scored 250 for seven. Chopra (four for 19) then impressed with the ball, as Clanfield finished on 108 for seven despite solid contributions from Adam Smith (32) and Andy Foster (26 not out).
Clanfield’s Sunday team fell to a nine-wicket defeat away in Rowlands Castle against a DACD side with a few players who normally play for Clanfield.
Despite reasonable scores from Kevin Goodship (26), Scott Richardson (20) and Phil Weaver (22) Clanfield could only manage 111 for eight from their 35 overs. Attacking play from Tim Barton (50 retired not out) and Toby Wehrle (49 not out) saw the Clanfield total surpassed in the 16th over.
