A ZUMBA and pilates teacher who runs sessions at Badshot Lea Working Men’s Club has won the Community Fitness Award for regional instructors in the south east.
Joanna Fitton admitted she wasn’t expecting to win. "I was invited to the awards in Newcastle, but I didn’t think I would win so I decided not to go, so I watched the awards on Zoom - and I won!" she said.
Joanna showed her versatility during lockdown when she switched her classes to the virtual world.
She said: "During lockdown the classes switched from face to face to online.
"It was important to keep the classes going, but it’s been great to get back to face to face."
Joanna also raises money for Children in Need.
She said: "We raised £370 for Children in Need this year, and we have supported them in previous years as well."
As well as running her own Zumba classes at Badshot Lea Working Men’s Club, Joanna also runs sessions at the Ash Centre.
Joanna teaches some of her classes with her friend, and fellow instructor, Michelle Hughes.
