VOLUNTEERS of all ages and from all walks of life turned out to help Liphook in Bloom members with the annual village litter pick.
They were issued with hi-vis jackets and litter-pick sticks by Bramshott & Liphook Parish Council.
East Hampshire District Council supplied large rubbish bags and collected them after the litter pick on Sunday, March 20.
A Liphook in Bloom spokesman said: “The most common litter was cans and bottles, crisp packets and takeaway food containers often collected from parking areas – it’s almost as though people had just emptied their cars of rubbish.
“How thoughtless – why not take it home and put it in the bin?
“The most unusual piece of rubbish was a surfboard that had probably come off a roof rack.
“Fortunately there isn’t as much litter now as a few years ago, but one piece is one piece too much.
“If everyone cleared any litter near their home when they put out their wheelie bin, it would make a difference – as would people using a public litter bin or taking rubbish home when out and about.
“A very big thank you to all those who helped with the litter pick.
“Together with Liphook in Bloom, they help make our parish such a lovely place to live, work and play.”
