A goose chase in a village near Bordon has ended with nearly £1,000 being donated to charity.
There was also a powerful gesture of goodwill as Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) agreed to sponsor the Lindford Summer Fete in token for the disruption caused by cabling work on the B3004 and Liphook Road early this year.
The event was hugely successful with every stall space being snapped up and hundreds enjoying a day of fun, food and fundraising.
The fete got off to a Tree-mendous start with a giant goose getting the party started ahead performances by DDK Dance Academy, magician Jared Gale and live music from No Small Things.
The Back Yard Bug Experience and Hollybrook Mobile Farm made a welcome return while a ‘wooftastic’ dog show had tails wagging.
Proceeds went to the Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance while SSEN’s sponsorship allowed Lindford Parish Council (LPC) to acquire two large festival BBQs and a pair of gazebos for the fete and future events.
“SSEN recognises the impact our recent essential works had,” said Martin Powell, project manager.
“We are committed to supporting the communities we serve, so sponsoring this event and gifting the BBQs and gazebos are our way of saying ‘thank you’ for your patience and understanding.”
“Our residents and local businesses make our community what it is and we will always support them where we can and have done so throughout SSEN’s reinforcement programme,” said Cllr Tara Hotson, vice chair of LPC.
“We all come together once a year to organise the village fete, which takes a huge amount of time and effort.
“Having the additional funding from SSEN has enabled us to invest in assets we can use year on year.”
