A community group has thrown its name into the ring in the fight for the future of a gateway site in Bordon – with a home for the boxing club being a possible use.
The Whitehill & Bordon Town Partnership is keen on taking over the Northern Gateway site on the corner of Station Road and Camp Road.
The site – which includes the Eco-house, former fire station and Lloyds branch – was deemed surplus to requirements by East Hampshire District Council last year along with the Mill Chase car park.
It may yet become housing as it has no designation but the WBPT is keen on keeping the site for community uses with a survey being launched to establish possible uses.
The insist the site will be self-funding if their bid is successful as less than five per cent of their costs are covered by grants.
“The bid to EHDC is scheduled for the end of September but we need input from the local community on the facilities you’d like to see in the town,” said a spokesperson for the WBPT, which also runs events at Forest Community Centre and the summer fair.
“Suggestions have included additional childcare facilities, office space for clinicians, a venue for the boxing club, hot-desking spaces, entertainment rooms and a wine bar.”
The survey at https://shorturl.at/U76Zk also includes questions about the Whitehill Club site which could also see investment from WBTP.
The spokesperson added: “The more responses we receive, the better we can shape the future of our town.”
