The race to save The Chase is on with support growing for two online campaigns against plans for an all-out move to a new health hub in Bordon town centre.
More than 500 people and counting have joined the Chase Health Hub page on Facebook amid concerns about the future of healthcare in Whitehill & Bordon.
Members are adamant there is scope to keep the current building open given its size, current range of services – around a quarter of the hospital is currently in use – and scope for expansion.
That’s in contrast to the proposed Health Hub with little room for leewaty given its hemmed-in location underneath housing and between Havannah Way and The Shed.
There’s also no secret in reporting the hub is considered crucial in boosting footfall at the new town centre, but the NHS have also admitted there’s no Plan B, so there’s a fear the town could be left with nothing if the plan fails.
The Facebook campaign is running alongside a www.gofundme.com page set up by Lisa Byrom that aims to challenge the NHS over the future of Chase Hospital.
A £15,000 target has been set to pay for any legal advice the community may need in its fight to keep the Chase open as a fully functioning community hospital.
The land was left to the community by Joan Knowles but more investigations may be required about what covenants and restrictions may be in place.
An estimated cost is expected soon but £745 has already been donated at the time of writing, with proceeds being donated to Whitehill Town Council for a community project if they are not sufficient to cover legal costs.
