A DANCING superstar is set to open Alton’s third Stand Up to Cancer zumbathon on Saturday.
Katya Jones, who won last year’s Strictly Come Dancing title with actor Joe McFadden, will add some professional polish to the event at Amery Hill School, which runs from 1.30pm-5.30pm.
And the fundraiser will feature a Strictly theme, complete with the obligatory sequins and glitter!
Led by zumba instructors Kate Sadler and Mandy Wilson, the lively four-hour session will also be cheered on its way by Alton mayor Dean Phillips.
Commenting on the event, World and British Latin champion Katya said: “So many friends and their families around me have been affected by cancer. And by doing research we can help to prevent this and find a cure.
"Cancer Research UK is almost entirely publicly funded, so for me it’s a perfect way to give to my local community, especially when it involves dance and keeping fit."
And the 28-year-old who hails from St Petersburg, Russia, added: “It’s also the year of the women and I love women who take the initiative and get involved. We’ve got to stick together. Bring on the sparkle!”
