BINSTED School Big Build Project fundraisers will be at Country Market in Kingsley tomorrow (Saturday) to host Fest in the Field.
Opening at noon, the festival will have live music on stage between 3pm and 9pm, featuring headliner Lemar supported by former X Factor contestant Joe Waller, local band Ellementl, and the Alton Rock Choir.
There will also be an inter-school choir competition, an interactive sports zone and children’s zone, karate and ballet workshops, and a craft market.
All money raised by the event will go to the Binsted Primary School Big Build Project, which was launched in February, the aim being to raise the £113,000 needed to finance the construction of an additional classroom.
Binsted Primary School provides a primary education for four to 11 year olds for the residents of Binsted, Kingsley, Oakhanger, and the surrounding villages.
Due to rising numbers and the introduction of a new national curriculum last year, the year groups have been re-organised into reception year, years one and two, years three and four, and years five and six.
However, the school has only three dedicated classrooms which has meant leaving two year groups, one class, without a classroom.
The children in years three and four are now permanently taught in the school hall.
To meet the current demands of the national curriculum and to continue providing quality education and adequate sports facilities, the school desperately needs to build an additional classroom during the summer holidays.
The Friends of Binsted School are now on a determined path to raise awareness of the issue and the funds needed for the building work to take place, and Fest in the Field is seen by organisers as a key part of the fundraising programme for the school.
