STAFF, pupils and parents at Woodlea Primary School have been celebrating after the school won a bronze award in the Woodland Trust’s Green School Award Scheme.

To gain this accolade, the Whitehill school had to take part in green initiatives for which they received points.

The latest activity - walk-to-school week, supported by Streets Ahead - helped to secure the last points required.

The children and their parents were encouraged to walk the whole way to school, or to cycle or scoot, or to park a little further away, thus requiring a partial walk.

“Woodlea is proud to support greener and healthier living and we are delighted that our efforts have been rewarded,” said Julie Reid, leader of Woodlea’s Forest School. “We are looking forward to earning points towards our silver award, starting with our scooter-challenge week, when we will encourage as many children as possible to scoot to school.”
