Whisper it: but it seems the conveyer belt is firmly rolling on plans to open a supermarket in Bordon town centre.

Several documents linked to Sainsbury’s and their proposed store between The Shed and Budds Lane have recently been submitted to East Hampshire District Council.

The first is for a premises licence to sell alcohol with EHDC licensing committee member Cllr Mike Stevens confirming the application.

The second is a revised planning application with alterations to the loading requested along with minor changes to the frontage with a relocated cash machine.

However, changes to the adjacent multi-storey car park may raise eyebrows, as the plans include reducing the number of floors from four to three.

The number of spaces will be reduced from 362 to 221 - more than a third - if the plans are approved, with 150 available to shoppers and the remainder set aside for surrounding residents and office tenants.
