A man stationed at RAF Odiham is doing the South West Tough Mudder run to raise money for the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA) charity after it helped him deal with the break-up of his marriage.
Six months ago Thomas Kenning, from Market Rasen, returned from a four-month tour in Mali knowing his marriage had ended while he was out there.
Thomas said: “I was in a very fragile mental state. SSAFA were the first people I thought might be able to help. Jenna Middlemass, the support worker, took one look at me and saw I was in a mess. She was kind and knew all the steps I had to go through from a work perspective.”
SSAFA helped find funding for Thomas’s ex-wife to move nearby so their children, aged 11 and seven, could stay in the same school, and Thomas had 50-50 residency with them. He said: “It really has all turned out okay. Jenna really helped me and my ex to communicate and co-parent.”
The Tough Mudder is on the Badminton estate in Gloucestershire on August 12. To sponsor Thomas visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thomas-kenning
