A potentially life-saving event will be held at Whitehill village hall later this month for men aged 40 to 80.

Cancer Testing South will hold a PSA Blood Test Event for over 40s from the Whitehill & Bordon area on Saturday, September 28.

Appointments are free but the volunteer-run charity has requested a small charge to cover the costs involved in laboratory and results management.

They and doctors recommended that every man over 50, or over 40 if there is a family history of prostate cancer, knows their PSA.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of the disease in England and claims a male’s life every hour in the UK.

The charity is determined to reduce that number as it’s highly curable with early diagnosis and treatment, so having a simple test could be the matter of life or death.

The event will begin at 10.30am while the test takes minutes, with a small blood sample being taken from a vein in the arm.

Results are typically received within a few days with online booking through https://cancertestingsouth.org/events/ as it improves efficiency and reduces queues.

Farnham & Bordon MP Gregory Stafford has backed the event and is due to visit early on, with the charity also welcoming donations and offers of volunteer help.

Cancer Testing South would like to hear from anyone with good basic computer use skills to consider helping with event administration. Anyone interested in helping should get in touch via https://Cancertestingsouth.org
