Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner Donna Jones has reinforced her commitment to reducing reoffending with an intervention initiative for people aged 18 to 25 who find themselves in police custody across the two counties.

Project RESET supports young people in the Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Southampton and Isle of Wight custody centres, diverting them away from reoffending and ultimately into education, training or employment.

Ms Jones visited the Basingstoke centre on October 25 to see RESET in action.

Young people taken into custody are made aware of RESET and asked if they would like to see a RESET navigator who will meet them privately and conduct a trauma-informed assessment.

The service is tailored to each individual and ranges from helping with benefits, housing, intervention courses and training to steps to finding secure work. They are also offered ongoing support in the community.
