A village that was brought to its knees by roadworks is set for a final bout of disruption as a £10.6million network upgrade is nearing completion.

People around Lindford can expect a further spell of roadworks and temporary traffic lights as SSEN enters the final stage of a massive cabling project.

The project to lay 18km of cabling from Alton to Bordon and Lindford to “future-proof” local electricity supplies and meet growing demand began in May 2023.

But the resulting closures of Lindford Road and Liphook Road left some village firms teetering on the edge from a massive drop of frame – and was blamed for the recent demise of Altis.

The final stage of the project will involve a cable pull with SSEN expected to complete the work by this summer.

The work will be mostly carried out underneath temporary traffic lights but Oakhanger Road will be closed for two weeks from March 2 with the firm thanking affected locals for their patience and understanding.

Work on the latest phase will start this Thursday (January 23) on Farnham Road with temporary traffic lights in place until February 3.

Temporary traffic lights will also be installed in Lindford Road from this Sunday (Jan 26) to February 9 close to the playing fields and Lyndale Cottage, and on the Windsor Road section of Liphook Road from February 5 to 16.

Motorists can also expect temporary delays around Headley Mill Farm from February 7 to 18, and Louisburg Aveue from March 5 to 16.

“SSEN’s multimillion pound network upgrades in and around the Lindford area are vital to future-proof the community’s electrical system,” said a spokesperson.

“We remain committed to working closely with residents, businesses and local representatives to explore reasonable steps through which we can mitigate the effect of necessary works in local communities.”
