A newly-formed theatre company based in Farnham has made its London debut with an original and hilarious comedy show.

‘Obviously a Theatre Company’ was formed in January this year by former University of the Creative Arts students and friends Jack Ashley, Jack Collins, Izzy Burton, Morgan Clarice, Fraser Adams, Ben Payne and Hannah Alcock. 

The seven members, aged between 22 and 25, first met at UCA during their time on the BA (Hons) acting course, where they found a shared love of performance and theatre, and bound together to create the theatre group.

Joining together, they have taken inspiration from their lives around them, mixed in with a healthy dose of improvisation, to come up with their highly-rated slapstick comedy show, An Obviously Very Sad Play. 

It had a two-night run at the Cockpit Theatre during the Camden Fringe Festival, on Monday and Tuesday this week, and the company now hopes to perform at other venues in the coming months, following other recent successes on stage. 

The theatre company is deeply rooted in Farnham, having previously performed An Obviously Sad Play at the Farnham Maltings, which was met with rave reviews.

One audience member gave it a glowing ‘five out of five rating all-round’.

The story follows a group of bratty and entitled heirs who reunite at the wake of their extremely wealthy, aristocratic father Philip Spanker. 

From there, chaos ensues as the siblings begin to reminisce and discuss (bicker) about the inheritance money. 

Packed full of hysterical moments, including a curious heirloom urn, there is something delight and entertain everyone during the 50-minute-long show. 

There was even an interactive element for the more confident participants, with audience members encouraged to get involved with personal name tags, letters dedicated to the deceased, and a couple more surprises thrown in along the way!
