A councillor has made a convincing pitch to install a multi-use games area (MUGA) at a Bordon park.
Whitehill Town Council will look at whether developer funds can be used to install a MUGA at Mill Chase Recreation Ground.
The all-weather facility is likely to cost around £200,000 but Cllr Catherine Clark believes the scheme is a “no brainer” given its proximity to new housing, Weyford Primary School and a football pitch.
“I’ve been after this for six years,” said Cllr Clark during a recent WTC Executive Committee meeting.
“When I first came into this council it was to help, and I thought I could change Bordon with plans like this.
“I think it’s a no-brainer to stick a MUGA next to the football pitch as it could be used by Wey Valley Juniors for training and Weyford school also want a MUGA.”
Meanwhile, councillors have decided to let it grow at the nearby Knaves Mire site until they know the results of an environmental study, as they don’t want to commit to a “knee-jerk reaction”
The patch isn’t ideal for football because of a molehill problem which often led to ankle injuries.
It has been left to grow in recent months but a resident has called for it to be mown, while councillors wonder if the site should be left as a meadow.
An independent expert has quoted £800 to WTC for a study but Hampshire County council have offered their services for free in November if they’re prepared to wait.
