THE A339 Alton to Basingstoke road was closed on Tuesday afternoon after a sand lorry hit a tree and rolled over, trapping the driver inside the cab.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.50pm to attend the HGV which was blocking the road on the waterworks bend, near to the Lasham Pumping Station.
Police sealed off the road from the junction with the B3349 at Whitedown Lane in Alton, and the Lasham turning at Herriard.
South Central Ambulance Service sent a road ambulance and the air ambulance, which landed in the pumping station compound.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three engines from Alton, Basingstoke and Cosham to the scene and it took three-and-a-half hours to free the male driver, who was taken to hospital.
There were no other vehicles involved in the incident and the road reopened around 7.15pm.
