It’s time to get growing: those were the words of a town councillor following the launch of a community scheme to make Whitehill & Bordon a greener place to live.
The seeds of success were firmly planted at The Phoenix with the arrival of Greening Whitehill & Bordon.
The lottery-funded initiative revolves around five key ways in which the community can come together to battle climate change and make their lives more sustainable.
They include making homes more energy efficient, providing more space for nature, seed planting and better waste prevention.
The campaign has been rolled out to several Hampshire communities like Petersfield and Headley since its launch in 2007 with Whitehill & Bordon now getting its own.

“It’s been a long time coming and all the organisations in the community have been working hard to support each other and make this happen,” said councillor Linda Delve, with Whitehill Town Council taking the lead in the project.
Terena Plowright, Greening founder, was thrilled with the well-attended launch event at The Phoenix and is delighted that W&B is now part of the network.
She said: “The Greening Campaign is all about communities coming together to work om that huge topic that scares us all, climate change.
“But working on it so we can all benefit in our households and save money.”
She added: “I really wanted W&B to be part of this campaign because it’s a very, very special place and you work together really well here.”
It is hoped that W&B’s involvement in the Greening Campaign will raise the town’s profile and encourage more business and investment. The setting up of a seed bank is also part of the initiative, so there’s literally a chance for involvement to grow.
Cllr Delve said: “Let’s get active and let’s get growing!”
