A serial killer who murdered a teenager after she left a huge festival died in hospital.

Peter Tobin, who was convicted of murdering three women including teenager Dinah McNicol, died on Saturday in HMP Edinburgh aged 76.

Dinah, an 18-year-old sixth former from Tillingham, Essex, was last seen alive on August 5, 1991, hitchhiking home with a male friend from the Torpedo Town festival in Bramshott Chase, behind the since-demolished Spaniard Inn at Bramshott just off the old A3.

Thousands attended the three-day party and it was thought she had disappeared at the event, but searches of the area found nothing.

It turned out the hitchhikers had accepted a lift from a man. Her friend was dropped off at the M25 junction 8, near Reigate. Dinah stayed in the car and was never seen again.

In 2007, Essex Police reopened their investigation and on November 16, 2007, her body was found buried at Tobin’s old home in Margate.

On December 16, 2009, a jury took less than 15 minutes to find Tobin guilty of Dinah’s murder and he received his third life sentence, having previously been sentenced for the murders of Vicky Hamilton and Angelika Kluk.

Tobin, who had cancer, reportedly fell and broke his hip and refused food and medication prior to his death.
