The Electric Cycle Café in Downing Street has become the latest business to join the Plastic Free Farnham scheme.
The café joins a growing number of independent businesses and organisations in the town which are backing the Farnham plastics-free initiative led by Plastic Free Farnham, Farnham Town Council and the Rotary Clubs of Farnham.
It has given up three single-use plastic items and has qualified for the Plastic Free Champion certificate and badge from the charity Surfers Against Sewage.
Café owner Peter Goodman said: “This is an initiative deserving of support and so I am delighted to be able to support it.
“If we all do small things, they can make such a difference.”
The café doesn’t use gas – instead it uses 100 per cent renewable electricity.
The majority of the produce sold in the cafe is collected by e-bike – 32 pints of milk are regularly taken back from the supermarket on one bike using two standard cycle panniers.
For anyone interested in acquiring a bike, the Electric Cycle Café aims to provide simple advice on which bike suits your needs with a full after-care support and one-year warranty covering parts and labour for any defects.
There is also an opportunity to try one out for free.
Other businesses which have signed up to the Plastic Free Farnham Scheme include Pullingers, Farnham Wholefoods, Ruby Jones Home, the Blue Bear Bookshop, the Hogs Back Brewery, We Are Refillable, Nappy Lady, Morgan’s of Farnham and Hamilton’s Tea Shop.
