There’s a cracker of gig in Grayshott this weekend as a singer-songwriter will showcase her hot new release to folk fans.
Polly Paulusma’s concert at Grayshott Folk Club this Saturday (March 1) will be the second on a nationwide tour to promote her new album, Wildfires.
The acclaimed musician – who will be accompanied by Jon Thorne on upright bass with – is a Jill of all trades as she’s also a touring recording artist, record producer, label founder and published author.
She also straddles the jazz-infected, indie and trad folk genres, and boasts an impressive 21-year CV in which she has supported Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, Marianne Faithful among others.
Paulusma and Thorne will perform songs from her repertoire of six studio albums, with the first released all the way back in 2004 on Bjork’s label.
Her latest release – Wildfires come is this month – has been called an “extraordinary extended piece of work”.
It contains an impressive two hours of “breathtakingly emotional songs” interlaced with spoken word poetry to create a “truly immersive experience”.
Acclaimed record producer Ethan Johns, who has worked with Laura Marling, Ray Lamontagne and Ryan Adams among others, has sprinkled his magic over the album.
“The musical connection between Paulusma and Thorne is something to behold,” said a reviewer.
“Together they swoop and glide through songs from all of Paulusma’s albums, but especially 'Wildfires’.
“It combines their trademark bawdy humour and anecdotes with deep songs that touch on love, loss, grief and philosophical enquiry.”
The concert will begin at 7.30pm with tickets priced £18 from Grayshott Post Office or Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096.
Tickets can also be purchased online through www.ents24.com while there’s more details about the gig and further Grayshott Folk Club concerts at www.grayshottclub.co.uk
