Trees forming the new Elizabeth Copse were planted in Chawton House’s parkland on March 29.
They were donated as a result of a joint application by Chawton House and Chawton Women’s Institute to the Woodland Trust schools and communities tree planting programme.
Elizabeth Copse is named after Queen Elizabeth II, following an estate tradition of celebrating female monarchs in such a way.
Among those planting trees were Chawton WI president Margaret Crowe, Jane Austen’s House director Lizzie Dunford, Carol and Jeremy Knight, Cassie Blackwell (nee Knight), and Chawton House chair of trustees Louise Ansdell and chief executive Katie Childs.
