Edgeborough School’s chamber choir, consisting of singers from Years 6, 7 and 8, delighted audiences by bringing the spirit of Christmas with their seasonal repertoire.
The choir performed alongside Farnham’s Vox Choir at St Thomas on-the-Bourne Church’s Christmas Is Calling event. The Vox choir, consisting of 20 experienced singers and led by musical director Rob Lewis, invited Edgeborough’s chamber choir to perform with them on a number of songs, including The Shepherd’s Carol by Bob Chilcott.
Rob said: “It was wonderful to have our adult choir perform with younger voices. The pupils worked with such professionalism with our accompanying musicians Julian Cooper, Olivia Jageurs and Marjorie Carrington and their soaring, mature vocals on the evening belied their ages. The pupils are a credit to their director of music, Kate Davies, who knows how to get the very best performances from her pupils.”
Chamber choir pupils were also at The Spire Church to perform at Farnham Rotary Club’s carol service, led by the Rev’d Dr Michael Hopkins and held in thanks to those serving the community. Pupils, accompanied by organist rotarian Brian Cotterill, sang standout pieces including The Lily and The Rose by Bob Chilcott and Angels’ Carol by John Rutter.
Edgeborough School headteacher Daniel Cox said: “Watching and hearing our pupils perform at these two local events has filled me with immense pride. Kate Davies leads our music department to new levels of performance excellence with her unrelenting energy and expertise – so when we are invited to perform, our pupils perform with confidence in themselves and each other. The results were breathtaking and I look forward to watching them develop their singing in 2024.”
