THERE were celebrations this week among campaigners hoping to save beds at Bordon's Chase Community Hospital after they won support from East Hampshire District Council and Whitehill Town Coun

cil.

Two motions, brought to the district and town councils by councillors Adam Carew and Zoya Faddy, received unanimous support.

The motions welcomed work being undertaken by the Southampton, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth Primary Care Trust to secure a "firm footing" for the hospital's future, but also expressed concern that the hospital had been "under utilised" for years.

The councils recognise the growing public concern - revealed by the 3,000 signatures on the petition by the Chase Hospital League of Friends - that if the eight beds at the Chase were removed, the hospital's future might be in jeopardy.
