ALTON Camera Club will be celebrating its Diamond Anniversary this year, and begins its new season with a new venue. As of Wednesday, September 13, the club will meet at Holybourne Village Hall – at 7.30pm every Wednesday evening until the following April – with the exception of the Christmas, New Year and Easter holiday periods. A stimulating programme of events designed to appeal to beginners and experienced photographers, of all ages has been arranged for the next 12 months.

The programme includes several visiting guest speakers, PDI (projected digital image) and print competitions, as well as a number of practical evenings and workshops. The club also arranges several outings during the course of the year, where members can try their hand at photographing various local events and places of interest.

New members may attend up to three meetings free of charge, before deciding whether to join the club. Annual membership is £42 (£21 for students) – it is then free to attend all of the evenings. When the club hosts a guest speaker, a £5 entry charge is levied from non members, but this is refundable against a

season’s membership subscription.

Starting the ball rolling on September 20 is guest speaker Paul Dunmall who will be delivering a presentation entitled Speed and Motion, which will, no doubt, reflect his interest in motor sport – that said, he also enjoys taking portraits and a wide variety of other subjects

And, on October 11, the club will welcome Tony Cross, who will speak on Photography in Alton – Mr Cross will be known to many as the former curator at the Curtis Museum and for his work in producing several publications on the history and people of Alton and the surrounding villages.

Alton Camera Club is always keen to attract additional members interested in learning how to improve their photographic skills.

It is not necessary to own an expensive camera, just to have an interest and a desire to improve.
