A green energy firm from Bordon has been given the power to light up an East Hampshire attraction in a UK first.
Gilbert White’s House and Garden will host the UK’s first Eco Light Festival this winter with organisers getting a £41,500 funding boost from EHDC.
The event at the Selborne home of the “father of ecology” will use renewable energy and rechargeable power packs, produced by Bordon BASE firm, powerQuad.
It will focus on a message of sustainability with an emphasis on the importance of protecting the environment in a “fun and exciting way”.
“With sustainability at the forefront, we are delivering an interactive experience that will enhance the story of Gilbert White, his influential work and the pioneering discoveries of British wildlife,” said Sarah Phillips, income generation manager at the attraction.
“By partnering with powerQuad we will be championing an alternative light show, with an innovative and environmentally-responsible use of green energy,” she added, before thanking Callum and Susanna from Quality Marquee Hire for their input.
The outdoor lighting installations will be operated by rechargeable batteries, which use solar and pedal power.
Battery producers powerQuad can help businesses reach net zero emissions through portable power packs, supplying outdoor power through renewable green energy.
Gil Satchell, co-founder of powerQuad Ltd, said: “We are proud to be able to provide renewable battery packs to this unique project that will promote green energy usage and support the local economy.”
The Rural Grant funding awarded to the festival is part of the council’s Grow Up! programme that seeks to bring improvements to firms and communities in the district.
Cllr Robert Mocatta, EHDC’s portfolio holder for regeneration and prosperity, said: “Not only does this fantastic project align with EHDC’s own ambition to reduce carbon emissions, but it also helps create a thriving local economy.”
