Barclays Bank on The Borough in Farnham has confirmed it will be closing early next year.

The bank posted a statement on the window of the branch in The Borough today announcing that it will close on Friday, February 21, 2025.

The statement read: “We’re changing the way we support you in Farnham. We’ll still be part of your community, look out for details coming soon.”

The closure will leave only two banks remaining in the town: Santander and Nationwide.

Barclays had been planning to close the branch since December 2023, citing the rise in online and telephone banking as the reason for the closure. The bank was originally due to close in February 2024, but an analysis by cash machine provider LINK found a need for a new 'deposit service' in Farnham, prompting the postponement until 2025.

Barclays was also considering opening a Barclays Local in Farnham, a cashless banking service where customers could meet with staff face-to-face for banking support, without needing to travel to a full branch.

This closure is part of a broader trend of bank branch closures as more and more customers move to digital banking.
