A SOUTH of Butser gardener didn’t have to look far for inspiration when it came to celebrating National Apple Day.
Purbrook Horticultural Society members were treated to a selection of apples from Peter Chivers' garden.
Mr Chivers, who was helped by his sister Betty, gave members plenty of advice on varieties suitable for planting and their suitability for culinary or eating purposes.
Members were impressed with his knowledge and the fruits of his labour, as samples were brought along to eat.
The group is based at the Trading Store next to the London Road allotments in Purbrook with membership priced just £5 per annum. Visit www.purbrookhorticulturalsociety.org.uk for more details.
