Pancake racers defied rain to bring fancy dress and friendly competition to Alton’s Public Gardens on Shrove Tuesday.
Children and adults charged along Lime Tree Avenue with frying pans outstretched as they battled to cross the line first in this fun annual event.
The winners were: Nutella (Pre-school) – 1st Charlie, 2nd Casey, 3rd Cahya. Lemon and Sugar (Years R to 2) – 1st Orin, 2nd Ella, 3rd Evelyn. Milk (Years 3 to 6) – 1st Albert, 2nd Esben, 3rd Caleb and Ada. Flour (Years 7 to 11) – 1st Chloe and Phoebe, 2nd Dexter, 3rd Liam. Eggs (Teams) – 1st The Nuggets (Lee and Liam), 2nd Alton Town Council (Emily and Phoebe), 3rd Alton Community Cupboard (Carol and Ginny).
Alton’s deputy town mayor Cllr Annette Eyre said: “The Pancake Race embodies the essence of our community, bringing together individuals of all ages to celebrate tradition and camaraderie. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all participants and winners for their remarkable efforts.”
