Vandals smashed the window of the Naomi House & Jacksplace charity shop in Alton last Saturday night.

The attack is estimated to have cost the charity - which provides hospice care for local children and young adults - more than £2,000 in replacement costs and around £500 in takings from not being able to open on the following Monday.

Police were notified in the early hours of Sunday that the window had been damaged beyond repair.

An emergency glazier quickly boarded it up, but because of the need to ensure the safety of staff and customers the shop could not open all day on Monday.

Determined staff managed to accept and process donations throughout the day via the shop’s back door.

Rob Gordon, head of retail at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: “We are incredibly saddened that this has happened to our charity. As always we deeply appreciate the support from the local Alton community in continued donations and look forward to welcoming them into our shop.”

Naomi House & Jacksplace are hospices for life limited and life threatened children, young adults and their families based near Winchester.

Naomi House & Jacksplace has 21 charity shops across the south coast, as well as a warehouse. The charity relies on its retail operation for a large percentage of its income, so that the charity can be there for families who need it most.
